Vroom
to have a laugh...

Jug mechanic and sometimes
drinker Gordon Thorpe has attracted a strong following to his classic
motorcycle racing team, back by another character Mike Summerfield, who
sometimes frequents The Jug.
Gordie,
nicknamed 'The Magpie', races on an original 350cc K4 (CB350) which he
bought for scrap and has rebuilt it up himself to compete on the classic
racing circuit.
One
of his recent outings was at Darley Moor, near Ashbourne, where his supporter
from The Jug & Glass joined him to cheer him on.
'The Magpie'
also races a 500cc ManxNorton one of the first competition short stroke
bikes ever build. Mike Summerfield, from Summerfield Engneering, was
the person behind this machine and supports Gordie whose racing colours
are a 'slimming' black and white!
Gordie
had a great weekend at Darley Moor, although he had problems with his
crutch in the last race...opps, that's a clutch points out Paul Hambly
who is a new member of the race team. Word has it 'he can't push a bike
very well but is a much-valued member of the team'.
